HUNG: Little Berlin Member Show
We are pleased to announce Little Berlin’s August exhibition entitled HUNG, a group show with work by our present and past members. It is set to open First Friday, August 3rd at 6pm. The exhibition will be on view through August 18th. Gallery hours are Saturdays 12pm to 5pm and by appointment.
“HUNG” reflects the installation method of the exhibition and recent occurrences at the gallery. The artwork will be HUNG from the ceiling to give cohesion to the variety of work presented, which will include: paintings, drawings, fabric art, sculptures, video, installation art, and performance art. Last winter, the status of Little Berlin was in limbo due to financial difficulties, but the gallery recovered through vigorous fundraising and advocacy by its members and supporters. We are grateful for the opportunity to continue our mission, within our neighborhood and the greater Philadelphia art community, to encourage experimentation and to be open to the myriad ways of art-making. We’re approaching the initial planning stages for our 2013 season, and, with many new members joining and new ideas informing the collective, we want to keep our audience hanging on new possibilities.
Participating artists are: Kelani Nichole, Angela McQuillan, Lee Tusman, Alana Bograd, Caitlin McCormack, Marshall James Kavanaugh, Alex Walcroft, Samantha Reedy, Masha Badinter, Andy Molholt, Eileen Lillian Doyle, Tyler Kline.
In the Fairgrounds (2009 E. York st. 19125):
The Wanderings of Turtle Island
By Francesco Lovascio di Santis
he Wanderings of Turtle Island, a multimedia fine visual art series in process for twelve years and spanning over a thousand sequential originals, of multiple inter-permeated temporal spans, will exhibit for just one day at The Little Berlin Fairgrounds. The artist would most like to speak to those who show up on this “Information Dirt Road” to read these grammatically-diverse swaths of narrative synergy about living freely in a world not entirely free. Theartist, named Cesco Vascio for short, and Francesco Lovascio di Santis for long, has primarily developed his style in isolation, remaining a self-taught creative, who, if summoned by communities with resonate values may lend his “media solidarity.”
