About the Artist:
“My art is about creating something that’s never been done before and in a sustainable way. All of my sculpture collage materials are either from broken pieces that would otherwise be trash, and other found objects from around my home. Each piece is an evolution of weeks to even years of fine tuning and repurposing. These works are art i keep around my home; which could be mistaken for a museum within itself, so I’m constantly adding and subtracting from them. I get inspiration from fashion, nature; mostly the ocean, and my overactive vast eclectic imagination.”

It’s AUGUST! This month we are proud to present CHEEKY. A vibrant series of paintings by Veronica Knell.
Veronica “Ronnie” Knell is a self-taught Philly based illustrator who works in watercolor and gauche. Knell is inspired by fashion, architecture, and interior design. Her art strives to demonstrate the elusive charm of women.
“I love capturing the way in which women bring beauty to the menial and mundane. This current body of work is a quasi-autobiographical depiction of my day to day life, incorporating elements of whimsy and nostalgia.”

We’re celebrating Fishtown neighbors every first Friday this summer, at our new event series, Fishtown First Fridays!
Join your neighbors every First Friday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm this summer in June, July, and August at the NKCDC Garden Center at Frankford and Berks for a family-friendly outdoor evening of music, drinks, food, and warm-weather fun.
At our August event we’ll have DJ Andy Pry Ortega spinning records, shrimp rolls, beugnets, and more from Aether, and beer and cocktails from Evil Genius and Philadelphia Distilling. PlayArts will also have a kids’ activity area on-site. Admission is free to hang out, and it’s pay-as-you-go for food and drinks.
This month’s event will also coincide with the Flower Crawl, which culminates our Fishtown Flower Power contest. We’ll be voting on this year’s container garden submissions, and will be distriubuting prizes to the winners about midway through the evening.
